AN/SPS 43 Radar

The large AN/SPS 43 radar is scratch built from tinned copper wire, I buy the wire on ebay it comes in a variety of gauges. I think its normal use is for linking tracks on circuit boards it comes on 500g spools, which is a few models worth . I use it for making my guard rails too.

The antenna was put together with standard electronics solder using Fry's fluxite as the flux. I find using a separate flux makes the soldering easier. The whole antenna is washed down in white spirit to get rid of the flux residue prior to painting.

I failed to take any photos of the initial stages of the build, I need to build another antenna for my current project USS Canberra so I will try and remember. The next one I build I will use solder with different melting points for the frame and details.
